Dr. Charles W. Thomas & Dr. Robert D. Cummiskey and their staff ensure patients are given the best care available and are presented with a vast array of options in treating venous diseases. As experienced surgeons, Dr.’s Thomas & Cummiskey uses their experience and expertise to provide patients with the best service possible. Treating varicose veins and spider veins effectively is possible with advancements in modern medical research.

Southern Vein & Laser Institute uses the most advanced equipment and technology in treating patients to ensure safety concerns are addressed while providing the most efficient treatment possible.

With an interest in non-invasive procedures Southern Vein & Laser Institute offers patients with treatment options such as compression stockings, endovenous laser ablation and sclerotherapy. Ultrasound is also used in conjunction with some treatments to enhance diagnosis accuracy when determining the area of treatment and during the treatment itself. Vascular dysfunction is usually associated with a number of different factors including weight, lifestyle, genetics, hormones among others.

Charles W. Thomas, MD

Dr. Thomas was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. He completed his medical education at Louisiana State University School of Medicine. Dr. Thomas went on to do his residency in general surgery in New Orleans and became board certified by the American Board of Surgery in 1999.

After completing his residency he began working as a general surgeon and has been working with Dr. Divincenti at Southern Surgical Specialists since 2000.

Dr. Thomas is currently a member in good standing with the American College of Surgeons, American Medical Association, American Board of Surgery, and the Louisiana State Medical Society. He has hospital affiliations with West Jefferson Medical Center and Meadowcrest Hospital. He is a certified proctor for the DaVinci Robotic System and practices at West Jefferson Medical Center.


Robert D. Cummiskey, MD

Dr. Cummiskey was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. He completed his medical education at Louisiana State University School of Medicine. He went on to do his general surgery residency in New Orleans where he was appointed Chief resident for his final year. Dr. Cummiskey became board certified by the American Board of Surgery in 2000.

After completing his residency he joined a private practice as a general surgeon and later joined Southern Surgical Specialists in 2006. Dr. Cummiskey is a member in good standing with the American College of Surgeons, American Board of Surgery, and the Louisiana State Medical Society. He is a certified proctor for the daVinci robotic system and is the father of one daughter.


Jacob B. Daigle, MD

Dr. Jacob Daigle was born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He attended Louisiana State University for his undergraduate education and went on to complete his medical degree at Louisiana Health Science Center in Shreveport, LA. He completed his general surgery residency in Austin, Texas where he was given the Award for Exemplary Service & Excellence in patient care. Additionally he was appointed Chief resident during his final year.

After completing his residency he joined Southern Surgical Specialists in 2014. Dr. Daigle is a member in good standing with the American College of Surgeons and the Louisiana State Medical Society. He has hospital affiliations with West Jefferson Medical Center, Ochsner Medical Center - Westbank Campus, and St Charles Parish Hospital.
